I have a new websites. And after a week now, the visits are few. Some one told me I should do some SEO jobs to promot my web. So, who knows some seo techniques or strategies to optimize the website( not an seo company, i need the skills of SEO).

I’ve been reading this article from Gerry Mcgovern with a heading ‘Web redesign is bad strategy’.

My reasons for a website redesign is to respond from customer feedback about the site, reviews from usability experts, company rebranding and make the site visually appealing.

Another would be to make a site SEO friendly. Search Engine Optimisation is more than just ‘keywords’ and ‘descriptions’ but contents. Search engines cant read Flash pages and images needs ‘alt’ tags.

What is your reason for a website redesign?

Well, having just re-designed a few sites, I have to disagree entirely with Gerry’s article. I assume he was paid to spout all that mis-information and really he doesnt seem to have the slightest grasp about what is good or bad for anything.

Notice if you will that one third of his post is consumed (padded) by his simple analogy of the Jones family, which was at best weak and I struggled to find any real similarity between cats peeing in the wrong place and efficiently managing a website …..anyone else share that thought?

His view that most websites are re-designed as they have fallen into disrepair is just wrong!
Most websites are re-designed as the marketing departments of the company go through a re-branding exercise or a promotional strategy change and, quality of your web presence is the obvious place to make the first changes when you implement the new strategies.

From this stems the need to stay abreast of new technologies and embrace them where they will work for your organisation. Dynamic HTML, SEO, CSS are all examples of progressive technologies and all make good reasons to re-design.

Sure you can post "good quality content" in a plain old html page but if it doesnt look exciting then people wont read it.

It seems that if Gerry had his way, we would all still be reading text web pages…….you just have to move with the times….again, anyone with me there?

i have a website called www.buddystumbler.com. we have optimized it for keywords (meet people online, make new friends). If you search for those keywords on Google the site is on the first page.

however if i do the same keywords search on MSN, Yahoo or Ask i don’t see my site buddystumbler.com. why is that? do i need to do something differently?

Yahoo rocks and so does Ask. Yahoo doesn’t see the web the same way Google does otherwise you wouldn’t need to use both would you? Maybe you should look at your meta tags I’ve read somewhere that Yahoo values them more than Google does. I’m curious in knowing how you optimized your site for those keywords in Google???

Companies have contacted me offering to help me increase my site’s rating but I don’t have the budget to pay for the service. They mentioned that the service will submit to numerous search engines in order to increase my site’s rating. If you know how this can be done, let me know. And what search engines need to be submitted to in order to optimize a website?

1. Write articles and submit them to ezinearticles.com and goarticles.com. You could write them about how to throw a baby shower, games to play at baby showers, how to bathe a puppy, fun gift ideas for dogs… BUT you MUST put your site in the bio box! (You will see this when you submit your articles.) This is a great way for FREE to get listed on the front page of google.
2. In addition, start a blog at www.squidoo.com. And one at www.wordpress.com. Use the one at wordpress to house your articles, and the one at squidoo to blog on.

If you do these two things, you will get listed on the first page of Google.

Tips:
Use long keyword tails when you write your articles and when you name your blogs.

They say they pay their employees by direct deposit and ask for a bank account number and a routing number to make payments. Sounds kind of fishy and I can’t find reviews about them online.

Unfortunately, some of our forum members consider your query a personal attack on them. However, I find that the business concept of interactmedia to provide marketable copy to a client website is a questionable enterprise in itself. Would it be the same for rewriting a basic resume into a somewhat more elaborate and exaggerated version. And interactmedia actually are looking to pay copywriters for such a service? Hmmmm……

how can i optimise my site to get a really high quality score?! some have told me that by adding a ‘contact us’ page or a privacy policy page then you will get lots of traffic, I think this may make a difference but it seems like my sites are still being kept on the lower positions!!! why?!

well, google determines your site by many factors. some of these factors are:
1. Traffic, the traffic on your site helps alot, but google can tell if it’s just a few guys on alot of the time, or many guys on.
2. having other sites link to your site helps, but you don’t want those sites to have a low score also. having a bunch of really good sites link to yours because yours has good information is a good idea. If you have many crappy sites link to yours, then your score will go down.
3. content, the content of your site is a key factor. Google won’t bother if all your site says is "hello"

Here’s the deal. I have a potential customer who purchased a website from a company in India. This website is based on a template they use. My potential client is telling me that the site is not listed at all; not coming up in search results for any keywords.

I looked at the site and it’s all tables. No wonder the guy isn’t getting any traffic. Looking at the site, do you think this is a lost cause? Would he have to restructure the entire site to optimize it–or can I work with what I have here? I know there are tricks to making sites more searchable with tables, but this code looks pretty hairy.

Any suggestions?

What on earth to tables have to do with search engines results? Your question doesn’t even make any sense.

Is there any searchable content on the site i.e., text? Are there any links to the site from relevant web sites? What is the link text? Has the site been crawled by the search engines? (Is there a robots.txt excluding their spiders from crawling it?)

The issues for search results are exactly the same whether the site is written in tables, HTML 2.0, divs and css, Web 2.0, XHTML, SVG and canvas, Holographic-HTML-7.0, etc., etc. Tables have absolutely nothing to do with it. Do you think googlebot has forgotten how to crawl the kinds of pages that made up most of the web at the time it was originally written?

I have 2 more things to add to the list.

1) To get a content link from the sites/blogs related to your site theme. That is getting a link from middle of their site content with your anchor text. We know that it is hard to get but it is more natural and has more weight age in the search engine point of view.

2) Go for PPC ad campaigns with your targetted keywords.

I am trying to get my website www.Crunch-Care.com to show up as one of the top web searches for specific key words, such as San Diego Childcare, San Diego Elderly Care, Nannies, Post-Surgical Care, etc.

About a week ago we’ve added in key words, put in meta-tags, but we’re told we have to work on a linking campaign to drive traffic to our site.

We also need to do a better job of optimizing our site for Google, Yahoo, etc. to id our site as a top listing (not sure how we do that either)

Submiiting to quality web directories is one of the most effective ways to build relevant backlinks for your site.
